My
Story

Severe weather has fascinated me for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I was completely hooked on shows like Storm Chasers, even when my family tried their best to steer me away from them. (Sorry, Mom.) There was just something about the power of the sky and the people brave enough to understand it that pulled me in.

Now, all these years later, I get to live that dream. I work with the National Weather Service in Birmingham through the ALERT program, providing real-time weather updates directly from the field. When storms hit, I report conditions like hail, wind damage, flooding, and rotation straight to the NWS so they can issue faster, more accurate warnings. ALERT reports are shared with the National Weather Service, and a rotating group of trained ALERT members also works inside the NWS office to receive and relay those reports in real time. It's a coordinated effort between spotters and staff that helps keep communities safe, and being part of that mission is one of the most fulfilling things I do. What started as a childhood obsession has turned into a calling, and I still get just as excited watching radar loops as I did sneaking episodes of storm documentaries.
